Workplace violence is surging nationally, and healthcare workers are among the most vulnerable.

Workplace violence: An epidemic in healthcare settings

It is estimated that those in the healthcare and social services industries are 5 times more likely to suffer workplace violence than those in other industries.

A 2023 report from National Nurses United has shown that 81.6% of nurses have experienced at least one type of workplace violence within the past year. More than half of nurses (60%) have reported leaving their job — or considering leaving their job — due to workplace violence.

It is up to health systems’ security personnel to keep these valuable employees safe, especially in a changing landscape.
