We recently caught up with Justin Kesto, one of Canopy’s Deployment Leads, to learn about his journey, his drive for helping others, and the unique perspective he brings to the field. His story is one of technical expertise blended with genuine compassion—and a tireless dedication to the people who power our hospitals.

What initially drew you to Canopy, and what keeps you motivated in your role today?

When I first learned about Canopy, I was immediately drawn in by the company’s mission. I’ve always had a deep respect for the people who dedicate their lives to keeping others safe and healthy.

What keeps me motivated is knowing that the work I do directly impacts them. Every deployment I lead, every site I help bring online, means more healthcare workers can feel supported and protected in their environments.

What sparks your passion for this industry, and how does your work at Canopy contribute to that?

I’ve always had a passion for helping people, and healthcare has a special place in my heart. I love that what we build at Canopy doesn’t just make hospitals safer—it helps staff feel valued and heard.

Seeing a nurse or technician realize that our technology gives them a sense of safety they didn't have before is what makes the long days worth it. I take pride in knowing that each successful deployment is another layer of protection for someone on the front line.

What is Canopy doing differently in the healthcare tech space?

Canopy isn’t just another tech company. What makes us different is the culture of care and commitment that runs through everything we do. We treat every hospital as a true partner, and that relationship is built on trust and communication.

When a site needs help, the team steps up without hesitation. We travel, we jump on late-night calls, and we troubleshoot until the job is done. We’re there for our partners the same way we want them to be there for their patients.

And it’s not just about the work. The people here at Canopy make this place special. Everyone is approachable, collaborative, and willing to lend a hand. There’s a shared energy that pushes us to do great things together, and that’s something I really value.

If you had to describe the company culture at Canopy in one word, what would it be and why?

    Ownership.

There’s a deep sense of trust here that allows everyone to take ownership of their work and make meaningful decisions. Leadership listens, ideas are valued, and growth is encouraged. Whether you’re in engineering, deployment, or operations, you know your work matters. We all help each other, and that collective sense of responsibility is what keeps our momentum going.

Looking ahead, what are you most excited about for the future of Canopy or the healthcare technology space in general?

I’m excited about how we continue to innovate while staying true to our mission. Our technology keeps evolving, and each improvement helps hospitals become even safer and more connected. I’m especially excited about the advancements we’re making in system integration and reliability—the kind of changes that make a real, day-to-day difference for our users.

More than anything, I’m proud to be part of a team that genuinely cares. The future of Canopy is about building not just great products, but a great culture of trust, safety, and progress.

When you're not working, what does life outside of Canopy look like?

When I’m not working, you can usually find me outdoors or tinkering with something creative. I love snowboarding in the winter, 3D printing new designs, cooking at home, and taking long walks along the Great Lakes back home in Michigan. Being outside helps me recharge, and it’s where some of my best ideas come from. Balance is essential to me; it keeps me grounded and ready for whatever challenge comes next.
